Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which means it adapts to what the body needs. It is an undeniably intelligent herb, that can energize and calm simultaneously. When feeling fatigued it acts as a tonic by building and strengthening the nervous system and the body. When insomnia sets in, due to a hyperactive nervous system and vitiated Vata dosha Ashwagandha swoops in to calm and sedate when our nerves are in tatters. In Ayurveda, Ashwagandha is commonly used to treat ADD ( Attention Deficit disorder) in both children and adults, calming excessive thinking and increasing ones tolerance to stress.

Drinking Ashwagandha in warm boiled milk at night can aid in sound sleep settling the mind rather than sedating it.

Ashwagandha is a nourishing herb, it builds tissues and increases strength. Its rejuvantive properties help to heal torn ligaments and muscles while Its anti-inflammatory action aids in repair. Ashwagandha oil is a great choice of oil for Abyangha (massage) when there is low body weight, general weakness of the tissues or vata imbalances. A useful oil for any imbalances of the muscles as it reduces inflammation and increases muscle tone.

As one might imagine with such an intelligent herb, it also builds intellect and enhances memory.

Known as an aphrodisiac this herb is said to give sexual energy of a stallion, It increases sperm count and mobility and is very useful in cases of impotence. However, this is not only a herb for the male reproductive system women benefit greatly from its energizing properties which help to create a zest for life.
